(velvet, cotton, felt, lace, old/new, or antiqued, etc…)

My Project

The girl is a retro vintage card my Grandmother gave me, and the shadowbox frame was a gift from my sister, both several years ago. Shadowboxes are a great way to showcase memorabilia. I chose BUTTERFLIES because I had a whole boxful of K & Co. chipboard butterflies leftover. If I had a lot of time, I might have sewed a collage of fabrics together for the background, but the sheer fabric pinned to the back was a time-saver and I love love love the colors!

Tips to make this at home:

Use a purchased shadowbox frame with a cushioned background. Attach ephemera with pins slid in at an angle. Adhere co-ordinating items to the outside with pop-dots. This project is quick and easy. One tip I like is to do something that might make someone who is looking at my project ask, "I wonder why she did that?" or "I wonder how she thought of this?"

SUPPLIES:
Shadowbox
Sheer ombre fabric
Pins
K & Co. Brenda Walton Madeline Chipboard Butterflies, and Die Cut Cardstock
K & Co. Madeline Pleated Floral Grand Adhesions
K & Co. Madeline Frames & Flourishes Adhesive Chipboard
Vintage style card
May Arts vine trim
Prima Trims:   Prima Jaquard Embroidered Rose Ruffled Edge "Apple" and Prima "French Chalkware Baby Pom Pom Trim"
Pom pom trim
Sheer ribbon
Vintage necklace, broken
Butterfly ornaments
Tim Holtz Ornate Frames

NO-SEW INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Fold edge of sheer fabric under and pin it to the backing of the shadowbox (my shadowbox was lined in canvas with cushioning like this frame from Pottery Barn).
  2. Pin the girl to the left side of the background on top of the sheer fabric.
  3. Wind the vine trim around the girl and make a "U" along the bottom, left, and top. Pin.
  4.  Add three co-ordinating trims and ribbons under the girls feet as a border. Pin.
  5. Select a title diecut cardstock phrase. Pin next to the girl.
  6. Add a flower chipboard embellishment layered over the title and ribbon trims.
  7. Take a K & Co. Pleated Floral Grand Adhesion, put the butterfly part on top of a Tim Holtz ornate frame, and the pleat underneath, and adhere all parts layered onto a rose diecut cardstock embellishment. Pin to the right upper corner.
  8. Add chipboard and paper butterflies around the vine trim, and girl. Pin.
  9. Use sheer pink ribbon to make a bow, pin it to the heart wreath the girl is holding.
  10. Take pieces of a broken vintage pearl necklace and pin it near the butterflies for interest and contrast.
  11. Add a white butterfly ornament to the lower left corner of the ribbon border. Pin.
  12. Close the glass lid. Add a circle tag about center on the right edge.
  13. On the outside frame, on the right, just above the girl's head, adhere a large butterfly ornament, slanted left.
  14. Below that, adhere rose diecut cardstock embellishment.
  15. In the lower right corner on the outside frame, adhere another rose diecut cardstock embellie, add a folded butterfly diecut cardstock, and a vintage doo-dad. That's it! Easy!!!
